Hello everyone,

I have two partitions C:/drive and D:/drive and I wanted to format and
reinstall Windows XP on the c:/drive and I don't want to delete the D:/drive.
When I inserted the XP cd and I saw the two partitions, the default was the
D:/drive the one that I don't want to delete! It asked me if I want to
install XP on D and if I want to format it then I selected the C:/drive. Then
when I selected C:/drive it didn't ask me if I want to format it. And when I
selected to delete the C partition it told me that it can't! Then I pressed
F3 to quit the Windows setup.

After that I have reinstalled XP again (without format the c:/drive cause I
really can't do it) I'm having this problem.

Each time I restart the computer, I'm having a black screen with words as
follows:

***************************************
Please select the operating system to start:

Microsoft Windows XP Profesional
Microsoft Windows XP Profesional Setup

***************************************

And I select 'Microsoft Windows XP Profesional' because I don't know what am
I going to do if I go to setup again!

Thanks in advance and hope to hear from you soon!

Go to the OS > Open System from control panel > Click advanced tab > Startup
and recovery > click settings tab > edit your boot.ini file to remove the
COMLETE line about Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup. The WHOLE line
from start to finish... Set the time out value to 5 or something. If you
have SP2 installed it should look a bit like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

When you select Microsoft Windows XP Profesional do you actually bootup
into WinXP Ok? If yes, then rt click on
MyComputer>select Properties>Advanced>Startup and
Recovery-Settings>Edit. The Boot.ini file will open.
Remove the line that has "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup" by
highlighted and rt clicking choose delete.
Save the changes you made and restart with WinXP CD in the Drive.
When you start the Install process choose " New Install " not
Upgrade. Also click on Advance. A little further down
the Install Path it will give you the option of what partition you
want to install XP to. You can format at that time as well

Hi Guys,

Here it is the boot.ini file, so you can tell me exactly what to delete!

[Boot Loader]
Timeout=5
Default=C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\XP="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect
C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup"
