Form vs Folder Fields

What determines where a field is stored (in the form or the folder)?

I have a form that I want to save the fields as part of the form (user
defined in the form, not save form def in form) yet it always puts them in
the folder.

A follow on question.

I understand that there is a limit to the number of fields that can exist on
the form.

I have a form that has a lot of fields (all are listed as UDF in folder),
not at the limit but I am sure it is close. What I want to do is remove some
fields from the form and add some new ones. When I do this I can no longer
save the form on my public folder, it tells me that the folder moved, do not
have permissions, etc (indicating to me that I am over the size limit).

My question/confusion is that the net change in number of fields on the form
is lower yet I now get this message.

What can I do to work around this issue?

What do you mean by "save the form" -- publish the form or save an item
created with the form?

DId you remove unwanted field definitions from the folder using the folder's
Field Chooser?

What version of Outlook?

There is no hard limit to the number of fields. The limit is on the amount
of data in user-defined and built-in fields. That limit is 32k. I get
nervous with more than 150 custom fields on a form.

The message is when I save the form after publishing it and creating a new
item based upon the form, it publishes fine.

I removed the fields from the field chooser when defining the form, however
they still exist on another form defined in the folder.

I'm still not sure what you're doing. After you publish the form, there is
no need to save the form item. Use File | Save As to make a copy as an .oft
file template, then discard it.

What is the exact error message you're seeing?

I am saving the form as part of actually using the form.

I publish the form and then I close the form and go to the folder (subfolder
of contacts on my exchange server) where I want to create a new item, then I
attempt to save it to the folder and I get this message.
"The item could not be saved to this folder. The folder has been deleted or
moved, or your do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in
the default folder for the item?"

If I do the same thing with the form that this new one was based upon it
works fine.

Then you're saving an item, not the form. The form is the UI/code template.
The item is the data record.

What type of form is this (contact, task, etc.)? Is it published to the
folder where you're trying to create items?

Outlook version?

The base form is a post. It is published to the personal forms library and I
am on Outlook 2000 (9.0.0.7119 Workgroup)
