form results are read-only

I have created a form and the results go to a .csv file that opens in Excel
and I open it live from the server. The result go to the file just fine, but
when I open it it's read-only and I can't make changes to the info which I
need to be able to do. I've tried putting the file in the _private folder
and taking it out of there, but it's always read-only when I open it. Does
anyone know why this is and how I can get my results to be editable. I've
talked to Comcast (where the site is) and they say it's not because of them.
The form works great, I just need to be able the change the results.
Thank you.

Sound like you have Windows XP SP2 installed, You need to export the file to your desktop, then open
it.

No, actually I had Sp2 taken off a while back it was causing problems. And I
have exported the file to the desktop to see if that would work, and it did,
but then I have two separate files to work with and the info will be
different between the two. I really need to be able to edit the live file so
that I constantly have updated results. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Try setting FrontPage to open CSV files in notepad instead. Any office
application is likely to try to do all sorts of fancy stuff to "talk" to the
FP extensions, which is probably what is getting in the way.

That might work, but it's not very manageable that way, atleast not at my
skill level. This is what I'm doing with the form.........I have it on my
sisters wedding website, where people can fill out the form and RSVP online.
I get the form results opened in excel periodically and then I can total the
columns and see how many of each meal and things like that. If it goes to
notepad, it's not manageable like that. I don't know what to do, this is
driving me crazy....I just need to get those form results in a manageable,
readable form, and be able to say, take someone out of the form results if
they decide they're not coming to the wedding. And I need to do that on the
server so I have all the info in one place with all the new RSVP's coming in.
Thanks for all your responses, I hope someone can think of another solution.
Thanks.

What happens when you give the folder & file write permissions on the host
server?

The best way is to store the data in a Access Database, then create a set of Admin pages that would
allow you to edit the data directly on line without having to touch the database.

Tom,
Is that something I can do? Is that something Comcast has to do? Is
that done within frontpage, or on the Comcast side? That sounds like it
could be a solution, but I don't know how to do that.

dont know exactly how to do it.
Thanks.
