Forgotten User ID for Administrator Account

Here it is from the beginning:
My keyboard wasn't working properly when I created my admin. user id. So the
& sign was showing up as a different character. I tried to get into my admin.
account to do some changes to update. I am using my daughter's account now
and it is a limited account, therefore I cannot do any admin. tasks that need
to be done. I went to safe mode start up and entered Administrator and then
my password. I can't log onto it because the error message says that it is
not correct. Is there some way I can do this with restoring my computer?
Please help. There are updates available that only the administator can
install.

In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to
the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not
work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden
Administrator account. The default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen,
do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in
"Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up
Windows.

If you have XP Pro or you changed the password for the built-in
Administrator account in Home (which is usually blank), you can use
NTpasswd to change the built-in Administrator password to a blank. Then
log in and go to the User Accounts applet and change the password to
something you'll remember.

Mary, if you are doing EXACTLY what you say you are doing then the
problem may be easy to solve.
You say you entered Administrator in the Safe Mode, then used YOUR
password. There are two accounts that have administrative rights and
they are different. Your password will not work on THE Administrator
account any more than it would work on your daughter's account. A
common misconception. More than likely the Administrator account does
not have a password so just leave it blank.
Once you get it all straightened out, make the "Oh Shyte I Forgot My
Password Floppy" and keep it close.
