FORCE selection of outgoing email account

RE: Outlook 2003

I have numerous email accounts set-up, one for each of my several
businesses. Outlook makes you select a "default" email account. Although I
know you can change the account to send the mail through in the create new
email window, I sometimes forget to select the correct account before
sending. Therefore the emails get sent from my default account. This can
cause problems at times.

I am looking for a way to have NO DEFAULT email account, therby FORCING me
to choose the account to send from EACH TIME I create a new email. This will
eliminate the confusion of sending through the wrong business account.

Is there a way to do this natively in Outlook 2003, or if not, anyone know
of any utilities to accomplish this?

The easiest answer is to set up a separate Mail Profile for each of the
businesses....

It's not possible. If you can't remember to change the acct when you send
new mail (outlook should use the incoming account for replies) then use
separate profiles. Displaying the From field may make it easier for you -
and if you have a habit of realizing you forgot to change it right after you
hit Send, create a rule to delay sending mail for a few minutes so you can
go in an change it.

Setting a visibly different signature for each account may also help. When
word is the editor, changing accounts changes the signature to match the
account.

Great suggestion for the delay. That is exactly what happens. As soon as I
press, send, I realize it. A two minute delay for my default sending account
gives me time to change it.

You could also set up a fake email account as your default. That way you get
an error when you send an email without manually setting a valid address.

There is also a product called Outlook Split Personality that seems to do
this and also adds signature supports. I have not used it as it, but they
have a demo that you could try. I just am not willing to spend $39 and am
baffled as to why Outlook can't support multiple email addresses.

It seems like to a fairly common use case to want to be able to handle
multiple email addresses. It really would be nice if Outlook handled this.

Outlook handles multiple email addresses quite well. You'll have to be more
specific in describing what you mean by "handle". Email accounts aren't
contact-specific, they're server-specific.
