Force IE to use LAN connection proxy settings

T

TP Diffenbach

My situation: I have set proxy settings in Internet Explorer for my
Dial-up networking account.

Problem: other applications read these settings, and attempt to use
the proxy; I dont want other applications to use the proxy, I want
other application to connect directly to external addresses.

Attempted solutions:

1) removed DUN account from IE; this removed the DUN account from my
computer altogether. Not good.

2) Setting the proxy settings for the Local Area Connection. But IE
continues to use the proxy settings for the DUN account.

Possible complications: My DUN account is actually a RAS PPP Over
Ethernet adapter; my hardware is actually an Ethernet card connected
to a DSL modem.

Is there aby way to force IE to use the "LAN" connection?

Is there any way to make a dummy DUN conmnection, configure that with
teh desired proxy conecctions, and use the existing DUN as the real
connection?

Thanks!

Try unchecking "Use default gateway on remote network" on the Advanced
TCP/IP settings on the DUN connection. This is the default setting and
makes the DUN connection the route for all traffic except traffic on the
local LAN.

Danny,
thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, this doesn't solve anything; IE still uses the DUN's
proxy settings, not the LAN's proxy settings. Worse, other
applications still use the DUN's proxy settings, which is the real
problem.

Thanks
