Footnote - unwanted space

I am currently using the urban report style in Word 2007. When i insert a
footnote, the footnote at the bottom has a large space between the line and
the footnote number.

This also happens if i try endnotes. Ive tried line spacing, page layout,
paragraph, style etc.

Does anyone know how to remove this?

Make sure that the Footnote Text style does *not* have Spacing Before
applied. Do the same for the Endnote Text style.

If that doesn't help, do this: Switch to Draft view (View tab | Draft). Then
click the References tab. In the Footnotes group, click the Show Notes
button. In the Footnote pane, click the Footnote Separator item. Delete any
excessive paragraph marks from the separator (you may want to display
nonprinting marks to make this task easier). Also, set the Spacing Before to
zero (on the Page Layout tab, Paragraph group). Repeat the procedure for
endnotes.
