Footnote reference to other footnote

Hi...

I have a footnote that has a reference to a previous footnote. I would like
the reference to update itself automatically when a new footnote is added.
Is there any way to do that?

Example: Footnote 13 This is a footnote; see footnote 5.

If I add a new footnote before 5, 5 now becomes 6. I'd like the text to
read see footnote 6.

Thanks!

Hello-

If you are typing "see footnote 6" there is no way it will update
automatically or otherwise. You will have to track them down & edit
individually.

Have not had occasion to do so, but what should work is to insert
Cross-references using Insert>Reference>Cross-reference. Select 'Footnote' as
the 'Reference Type:' & choose 'Footnote Number' from the 'Insert reference
to:' list.

Cross-referece fields _do not_ update automatically, however, the way
Footnotes & Endnotes do. You can force the updating as necessary by selecting
the C-r field and pressing F9 or by rt-clicking it a picking 'Update Field'
form the shortcut menu.
