Footer/Section Page Numbering

R

Ross Payne

In my Word 2003 document, there are three sections. In the footer of the
first section, I want to have "page x of y," where y is the total page count
of the first section. In the second section, I want to have "page x of y,"
where x is "1" and y is the total page count of the second section. In the
third section, the footer will be empty. Any help on how to set this up will
be appreciated.

Ross,
With your cursor in the footer of section one, type page click the icon
insert page number, type of and then click on the menu Insert - Field -
choose the category numbering - select section pages and click OK.
Now move to section two, which should be an exact copy of section one, just
click on the button to format the page numbering, choose 1 next to start
with number and click OK.
Now move to section three and hit the button same as previous and delete
anything in the footer of section three.
That should do it.

You'll need to restart numbering in Section 2 and use Page { PAGE } of {
SECTIONPAGES } instead of Page { PAGE } of { NUMPAGES }. You don't need to
unlink the footer of Section 2 just to restart numbering, but you will need
to unlink the footer of Section 3 in order to leave it blank.
