Hi,
On a Windows 2000 system I was having problems with
getting some fonts to print out the same as on a XP
system so I deleted all the fonts (well, the ones that
would delete anyway. For some reason many of them stayed,
i.e Arial) I then copied all the fonts from the windows -
fonts directory on the XP machine and tried to copy them
to the windows 2000 fonts directory.

I don't think they copied but everything seems to be
working ok except one program screen has become very long
accross the screen and doesn't fit. Also the text within
the screen of this program (a estate agents package
called GMW) have become very big and type writer styleish.

So what could be causing this problem and also how do I
copy fonts into the directory as paste and copy didn't
seem to work,

Thanks
Lenny

Deleting and replacing fonts is more likely to cause problems than to fix
them. Differences in printing are most likley due to differences in
printers or printer drivers.

Windows may protect the fonts it thinks are essential, which could explain
why you couldn't delete some of them. Most likely Windows was doing you a
favor. If you were successful in deleting all of the fonts, you wouldn't
get any text on the screen. That would make it hard to copy anything.

That sounds like the symptom of a missing font. The font probably came
with the application, so unless the same application was installed on the
XP, it wouldn't be there to copy. When the application tries to run,
Windows substitutes some other font, which may not have the right
characteristics.

The right way to install fonts is to open the Control Panel and start the
Fonts applet or open the Fonts folder in Explorer, then click File and
Install New Font. Just copying them into the folder might work, but I
wouldn't trust that method to get the necessary registry entries updated.
