Font size in links bar

M

Mike

Am using FP2002, xp, IE7.
Trying to increase the size of the lettering in the links bar. Using
format>style>modify>font etc increases the area taken by the links bar but
doesn't increase the actual lettering size. Is there any way of doing this?
Working on http://www.tptiling.co.uk/

Many thanks for any advice

The link bar consists of images - you will have to edit the theme (and
save as a new name) to change the font used. You may have to change the
images as well to accommodate the increased font size. (Conservatories
and Porches looks as if it needs a wider image, but with a theme - one
size fits all.)

I would make the bottom link bar text based, rather than image based,
for those users who cannot display images.

Thanks Ron for your fast response. Need a little more help please on this.
The links bar font is Times New Roman and I wish to keep it at that.
Regarding the top links bar I have tried the following:
Selected it>format>theme>modify>graphics>item=horizontal navigation>font
I changed the font value from 1 to 2, the font lettering did change size but
as you predicted some fields exceeded the space available.
How do I increase the space available? I thought I was modifying the theme
by my above actions.

Out of interest how can I tell if the links bar is expressed as text as
opposed to image?

Many thanks
Mike

I think you are using a modified theme and if I am correct in the past I
have changed text size by customizing the theme. I went Format | Theme,
selected the theme I had chosen and its drop-down menu selected
Customize. In the dialogue that opened I pressed the Text button and
proceeded from the Customize Theme dialogue.

Clicking on More Text Styles opens the Style dialogue and pressing
Modify allows you to select a Selector and through Format change,
amongst other things, he font size. I don't know how to find the
appropriate selector other than Patience and Perseverance. Maybe a
little Prayer will help as well!

Good luck.

Thank you Malcolm. I followed your steps but I probably have a different
version of FP than you 'cos I do not see a 'customize' option. (see your 1st
paragraph).

The only way to make the images bigger is to change the images. Use a
graphics editor to create new images based on the existing images -
-slightly taller, and wide enough to accommodate the long page names.
You will require three images.
Import these into your web site.
Then customize the theme to use the new images:
In FP2000:
Format->Theme - choose theme
Click Modify
Click Graphics
Change the Item dropdown to Horizontal Navigation

For each of the images shown - Picture, Selected Picture and Hovered
Picture - browse to your new image, select and click OK.
When done click OK, then Save As and use a new name.
Change your pages to use the new theme.

You can select whether to use text or images for the links in the
navigation bar properties. Double click the link bar to bring up the
properties sheet. In FP2000 you can choose text or images, horizontal
or vertical. In later versions, use the style tab to choose images or
text.

The facility I am referring to has existed in all the versions of
FrontPage I have used going back to FP97.

With a page open in Design View click Format | Theme and a vertical
panel on the right-hand side of the FP window showing available themes
will open. Point to any one of the theme thumbnails and a vertical
drop-down button will appear with a downward pointing arrow. Click the
arrow and a context menu will open that includes the option Customize.
Click Customize and proceed from there.

That screen is in FP2003, and possibly FP2002, but was definitely
different in FP2000 and earlier - that is probably where the confusion
lies. FP2000 opens a large window without thumbnails, with a list of
available themes and a preview of every element in the theme on the
right. Customize is not an option, but there is a Modify button that
does the same thing.

and a tidy bit of work to modify all the images...imo hardly worth the
trouble.

Thank you everybody for your input. Due to recent storms my phone line has
been down for several days, so I was unable to respond earlier.
