font letters have changed and do not displayed clearly

after several years of working perfectly my font is no longer clear. Web
pages, word documents, everywhere is the same. I changed fonts but the
result is the same.

It is most evident when letters such as X, W, M are used. The straight line
is not connected in a straight line. Looks like there are 3 parts to make a
line and the first and last parts of the line are clear but the connecting
part is blurred or hazy or not straight.

Initially after this happened the blurred portion of the letter had a
red/green hue to the otherwise black letter.

This happened after installing IE7. I worked Microsoft over an hour and
they got the color hue out of the letter but the portion that is blurred/hazy
is still there.

We uninstalled IE7 but the issue remains throughout my computer. I
installed IE seven on three computers and this is the only issue with one
computer.

any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
my system is XP home, sp2, version 2002

Thanks Bob but I had already tried that. Turning off clear type did get rid
of the color hue but did not fix the clarity of the letters. I am wondering
if it could be a driver of some sorts but don't even know what type of
hardware or driver impacts this issue.

Did the color resolution change on you? This usually happens if the
graphics card drivers are corrupted. You monitor or graphics card could
be failing too, I suppose, but it's less likely since this started with
the IE7 install.

No the color resolution did not change...I don't think. Is that the 16 bit
vs 32 bit? If so it remained 16 bit. Are there graphic cards for color
resolution and different ones for the monitor?

Either 16 or 32 bit is good.. 16 or 256 colors is bad. ;o)
Are there graphic cards for color

The same graphics card sends out a signal to the monitor. The refresh
rate, color and screen resolution are all controlled in the Display
settings, affecting what signal is sent to the monitor. If the drivers
for either device are damaged, the signal could be affected. If either
device is overheated or failing, that could mess up the output too.

As a test, try a different monitor. If it looks better, the monitor is
failing, or its drivers may need to be reinstalled.. not as easy to swap
graphics adapter cards though.

Thanks Elmo I will try another monitor. I've already reinstalled the updated
Intel graphics card with no improvement.
