Following upgrade to IE 6, Windows Explorer now hangs

Does anyone have an answer as to why Windows Explorer
hangs up when deleting files, etc now that Internet
Explorer has been upgrade to IE 6.0? OS = Windows 98.

Ever since upgrading to IE 6.0, any type of action taken
in Windows Explorer, frequently causes a significant
delay in the system or causes the system to hang
completely; thereby, requiring a reboot.

Urgently need assistance in resolving this issue.
