Following sleep mode, computer lock up, BSOD, reboot- hard drives

I have recently started having this problem on my Dell computer running WIN
XP SP2. The problem is as follows:
I get bored and decide to leave my computer, so I put it into sleep mode via
the sleep button on my keyboard (looks like a crescent moon). I go get
lunch, watch TV, whatever, and decide to come back and use my computer. I
press a key on the keyboard or disturb my laser mouse, which causes the hard
drives to spin up (I hear whirling of drives and the fans kick back on).
Then it sits for a moment until I get the BSOD :(

Following the BSOD about inpage_data_error or something (I misplaced the
exact stop error), I power down, power up, and find that XP no longer
recognizes my primary (drive 0) or secondary (drive 1) hard drives, so my
computer is a paper-weight. What could cause this problem?

Troubleshooting I've done: Used memtest86 to ensure my memory is working
(it works). Ran mother board diagnostic (no problem). Only thing I couldn't
do is run the drive diagnostics off Ultimate Boot CD for my primary drive.

Specs: Intel 2.8gHz H/T CPU, 1GB DDR, Drive 1 - ST3120023A (Seagate), Drive
2 - WDC WD2000JB-00EV0 (Western Digital).

I got the error to repeat itself today. This error message is different than
previous messages. Each time the problem occurs, a different error message
comes up.
KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR
Stop: 0xC000000E, 0xC000000E, 0x00000000, 0x04A52000)

As I said, this message is slightly different. Sometimes, my computer will
stop recognizing my hard drives after a sleep-wake up error. This time, my
hard drives remained "recognizable". But, I'm hoping this illuminates the
problem.

-try clean boot
start - > run - > type msconfig - > select 'Selective Startup'
Uncheck the startup items
go to services tab - > check Hide all microsoft services at the bottom
right corner and then click disable all (to disable the third
party services)
- At times this error is due to the incompatible video card drivers
try disabling them and then check the status
open device manager - > right click and disable the video adaptor and then
restart the computer to check the status
-try systemrestore
-try runnning chkdsk from cmd prompt to see if we have badsectors on the
harddrive
open command prompt and type chkdsk /f

Does anything in this response pertain to what could cause my hard drives to
become "gone"? The computer doesn't restart sometimes after this lock-up,
and the drives aren't there for start up. What causes this?
