Color me stupid but I can'f figure out why after moving folders the originals
(minus content) still reside on the HD.

Leo,

That will sometimes happen if you have a file open, such as a .txt file, and
you move the folder that contains it to a new location. All files must be
closed before moving a folder.

I have the same issue, but a lot of times the contents of some of the
folders are left as well. Very scary to have to triple check things
and then check again in the hopes of not losing files

Hmm. My usual practice is to only move files when nothing is open. But I'll
take especial note. Thnx

I too have a similar issue. When moving files to another location that
already has the folder structure in place, it prompts me if I want to merge
the two folders, but then it doesn't merge. I wind up with a few files in the
new location and the remaing files in the old location. Anyone heard from MS
on this?
