folders keep changing to "Icons" style view - why?

Something strange is happening in XP. Although I view all my folders in
"Details" mode (View menu -> Details), often I go back to a folder and
find it is displaying large icons. I didn't ask xp to do this, so why
does it keep happening? I've even tried make "Details" permament by
going to tools menu -> folder options -> view -> "Apply [current view
settings] to all folders", but this just keeps on happening. I'm baffled
and it's annoying. Any ideas anyone?

Hi Alex,

WindowsXP will remember the settings of up to 400 folders, after that it
starts forgetting some. See this from MVP Kelly for a way to increase this
number:

Line 2, increase the folder view size limit to 8000

mmm, why can't they just have the option of one universal settings? Then
this wouldn't happen...
