I am an intermediate computer user, but I have never figured out how to
change the default folder view setting in an application.

Example: I do a File-Open in Photoshop and want to *always* see the files
in thumbnail view. But when I re-open the folder, it reverts back to the
list mode.

How can I get Photoshop (Frontpage, Word, etc.) to remember my specific
preference for that specific application.

From Help and Support: "view folders":

"To make all folder views the same

1.. Open a folder and select a folder view.
For help with selecting a folder view, see Change how you view items in a
folder.

2.. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3.. On the View tab, click Apply to All Folders.
Note

a.. To reset all folders to the settings that were in effect when Windows
XP was installed, click Reset All Folders. "
