Folder view in XP not like 2000!

In Windows 2000 Professional, you are able to see the
amount of disk space used and free on the left side of the
folder, if folder options are set to enable web content in
the folders. This is very useful especially if you are
trying to copy files to a zip disk or a cd-r and would
like to know how much more room is available.

In Windows XP Home edition, however, I am unable to
duplicate this view. I have tried the common tasks option
but that does not give me this information. I don't want
to have to right click the drive each time and view the
properties to find out exactly how much free space is
available after my last copy/move.

Would anyone have any ideas of how I may able to
accomplish this simple task? Or am I doomed to repeatedly
right-click?

Thanks!

I don't know about XP Home, but in the XP Pro version you
can see how much disk space is left on an object by
opening the Explorer window and viewing your list of
drives in detail.

Thusly..... Open My Computer (Explorer), click View--

That should get you what you want. Hope this helps.

disc who do I ask

You have to format the disk and reinstall the Win2000 'clean'. There is
no provision for uninstalling that upgrade

Right-click on the desktop and select properties. On one
of the tabs, you will see a dropdown and the choice will
be "Windows XP modified". Change it to "Classic Windows".
This will make XP behave like Windows 2000, as well as
look like it.

This is true, I suppose it should work. I am at work right
now on Windows2000, but I am sure that this would give me
the information I am looking for. Not as visual as in
Windows2000 (I guess I didn't realize how dependant I was
on pictures! :-) )but it should do. Thanks for your help!

I wasn't aware of such an option in Properties, but I will
look. I can't wait to see if it works when I am at home
on my XP PC. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, Lisa.

It's part of the Display Properties. Since I'm answering
this from work, as I did the other one, I cannot give you
the exact details, since we use Windows 2000 Professional
here. But, as I said: If you right-click on the desktop,
it will bring up the Display Properties. Just look for a
dropdown combo box in the upper left-hand side as you
click on each tab. You will eventually see one that will
allow you to change to the "Classic Windows" look. I use
it at home, because I do not like the look of XP.

Take a look at my response to Lisa. It's quite easy to
make XP look and feel like 2000.

Why go to the trouble of having XP just to make it look like 2000?
Yuck!

Because the *real* advantges of XP have nothing to do with the
way it looks, and some of us prefer the classic view.
