Does anyone know of a script or edit to add Icons the folder templates such
as documents (for any type),mucis artists, music albums.

I have a directory which is growing huge and would help to identify objects
easier if I could customize this directory to automate folder template icons.
thanks.

Customize Folders

Folder types:
Documents
Pictures
Photo Albums
Music
Music Artist
Music Album
Video

Customize tab
Allows you to change the picture that appears on a folder in Thumbnails
view, change the folder icon, and choose a new template for a folder. Folder
templates contain task and information links for specialized files, such as
pictures or music files.

[[To change the appearance of a single folder

1. Right-click the folder you want to customize, and then click Properties.
2. On the Customize tab, do one or all of the following:

Select a folder template
When you choose a template from Use this folder type as a template, you
apply specific features to your folder, such as specialized task links and
viewing options for working with pictures and music.

To apply a folder template to all of the folders contained within your
customized folder, select the Also apply this template to all subfolders
check box.

Choose a picture for your folder
You can choose the picture that identifies a folder in Thumbnails view.
When you click:

* Choose Picture, you can find the picture you want to use to identify the
folder.
* Restore Default, the last four image files you modified in the folder will
be used to identify it.

Change the folder icon
Click Change Icon to change the graphic that represents the folder in all
views except Thumbnail view.

Notes
To open My Documents, double-click the My Documents icon on your desktop.
If your folder does not contain image files, Windows does not generate
folder pictures in Thumbnails view.

You cannot customize the My Documents, My Pictures, and My Music folders.
However, you can customize the folders they contain. ]]

Thank you Wesley for your reply, it was very thorough.

I should have been more clear with my question, I wanted to add an icon to
the folder templates themselves (not the individual folder) so when I choose
"music (best for playlists...)" it would automatically add an icon to that
foder.

You can customize the appearance and behavior of an individual folder in two
ways:
* Create a Desktop.ini file for the folder
* Create a Folder.htt template for the folder

The desktop.ini file contained in a particular folder is what contains the
information on what that folder will display for a cutomized icon.

Create a desktop.ini file with the icon that you want to use and copy it to
the new folder.

First make sure that the desktop.ini does NOT contain this line:

[DeleteOnCopy]

[DeleteOnCopy] means that if you copy a desktop.ini and paste it into
another folder, the copy of the desktop.ini will be blank. Or if you copy
the folder elsewhere – for instance, to back up the contents – these entries
will not be copied.

The [.ShellClassInfo] is the header of the file and must be present before
anything else.

IconFile=Relative path to the icon file. If you want to specify a custom
icon for the folder, set this entry to the icon's file name. The .ico file
extension is preferred, but it is also possible to specify .bmp files, or
..exe and .dll files that contain icons. If you use a relative path, the
icon will be available to people who view the folder over the network. You
must also set the IconIndex entry.

IconIndex=n Set this entry to specify the index for a custom icon. If the
file assigned to IconFile only contains a single icon, set IconIndex to 0.

Example...
[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
IconIndex=43

Example...
[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe
IconIndex=0

Example...
[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE
IconIndex=0

Example...
[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\ICONS\Spy.ico
IconIndex=0
