Is there any way to create a sort of folder template; let's say that for the
mp3 folders I would like to see only the file name, duration and bitrate ?

Once established for one folder, I would like to be able to save this
template or to aplly it to other folders.

Thanx

For subfolders...

On the Customize tab, Select a folder template

[[When you choose a template from Use this folder type as a template, you
apply specific features to your folder, such as specialized task links and
viewing options for working with pictures and music.

To apply a folder template to all of the folders contained within your
customized folder, select the Also apply this template to all subfolders
check box.]]

I have exactly the same problem as Crios. I want to apply my specific
detail view setting to all subfolders in a certain folder. With the
standard Windows XP folder template this isn't possible. With these you
can't get a detail, customized view of your subfolders.

So in replie to Wesley's help. Isn't there another way to change the
view for all subfolders? Maybe it's possible to edit the Windows
standard templates.

Thanks.

In Crios (e-mail address removed) hunted and pecked:-

I've written a couple of scripts for this.

The first will wipe out all saved views, up the limit for saved views, then allow you to define a view for a folder an apply it to all its subfolders. The link is:

http://mysite.verizon.net/res18hr7/FVM.zip

The second script preserves existing saved views and only modifies the folder(s) and subfolders you select. That link is:

Good Luck,
Keith

Keith,

It's bad form to provide links to files directly on a site like that. If
you were to provide a link to a page that describes them you would be
doing users a favor - as it is, you're teaching them that it's OK to
download files from an unknown site and that it's a good idea.

If your create a simple page at
http://mysite.verizon.net/res18hr7/files.htm

it would allow users to see the links, see a description of the file,
and to have some form of reference other than just downloading a file
they don't really know the contents of.

Wow, thanks a lot! And such a quick reaction too.

The scripts do exactly what I want them to do. It took me a lot of
internet research before ending up here. It's strange how little
information can be found on this subject.
Even more remarkable: it isn't standard in Windows XP.

I've never gotten around to learning any web design -- it just hasn't caught my interest. Nothing in a description (which is in the readme file) assures that the script itself is not malicious -- you can examine the code or take it on faith. A google search of the XP groups for posts by me will reveal I am a trusted source. :)

Ignore Leythos, he is the local Netkop with a one track mind. He feels it is
his duty to inform the world of how bad the internet is and to let everyone
know that if you don't have a page explaining links that those files are
untrusted and have been tampered with. He also thinks the since he does not
know the site then it is an untrusted site. He totally skipped the fact that
you gave a description of each file and what it does because of his netkop
agenda.
