folder sync again - specific requirements

I'm looking for a way to sync a desktop and laptop machine. Before you
say "not again" let me say I have tried various tools and either I am
missing a key feature from them or they simply lack what I am looking for.

Let's say I have BoxA and BoxB that I want to sync togehter. On each
system I'd like to sync the following folders/files:

c:\documents and settings\firstname lastname\my documents ==>
c:\documents and settings\<first initial><last name>\my documents

c:\folder1 ==> c:\folder1

c:\folder2\*.txt ==? c:\folder2\*.txt

and the pattern repeats for several other folders and files. In essence
I have the following requirements:

1 - map name from BoxA to a different name on BoxB (such as to copy the
contents of my documents)
2 - select entire folders and their subfolders
3 - ability to select a pattern of files from a folder (such as *.txt)

I've tried goodsync and karen's replicator as well as unison and abakt
backup but so far no success on all requirements. I can get some things
but not all.

In goodsync and karen's I create a job but that has a single folder
source and dest so I'd have to create many jobs to do what I want. In
unison I can select only folders but not file patterns. Etc....

Any ideas on how best to achieve this goal?

Thanks

Your specifications are too tight. Either write your own, modify
Karen's or use Karen's and make as many jobs as needed to do what you
want.

No, I've not seen that one - missed it somehow. It sounds promising
though so I'll get it a shot. Thanks

Try Mir Mirror freeware. You would have to create the job on one box
or the other and map as a network drive but I think it would work and
satisfy most if not all your requirements.

Any idea where to download Mir Mirror from? I tried a google search but
have not turned up anything yet.

Not 100% certain...but I think Allway Sync will do what you want...or
if not then Allway Sync Pro. Allway Sync is cripple ware, but they
give you a lot of room to play.

I have been using Syncback since I hit my usage limit on Allways sync -
you may find it does what you want. It seems to have endless different
settings and filters that can be applied and is very flexible.

Another great Sync tool that I recently found but ommitted to write
down was one that could sync the differences between 2 pc's using a
memory stick, i.e. it could manage to only copy the files needed onto
the memory stick - if someone could remind me of the name I would
appreciate it.
