folder sharing in a domain

HI
I am trying to set up a shared folder on an XP pro machine and give
permissions to only certain domain users. Problem is when I go to
permissions, then "Add" then the only location I can see is the local
computer - no option to see in the domain for users/computers on the domain.
WIN2000 clients bring up the option of the local computer name and the domain
no problem.

The domain is controlled by a win2k server. The XP station logs into the
domain ok and otherwise functions as expected.

What am doing wrong?

Darryl,

You have to setup DNS on both the server and the Windows XP clients properly.

Thanks chuck

On your article, when checking the forward lookup zone, do you mean on the
DNS mmc plug in on the server? I can't get properties for the Forward lookup
zone - or see a General tab there. server is win2k

Darryl,

I have Server 2003, so that's what I provided details for. I'm not aware of
drastically different interfaces between the two, that's not to say that there
aren't any though.

For Server 2003, the Forward Lookup Zone is a subset of the server itself, in
the tree view. There are 2 settings for the forward lookup zone.
# Dynamic updates permitted (none, secure only, secure and non-secure).
# Name servers - the server must point to itself as a DNS server.

And for the server itself, you need to specify your ISPs DNS server addresses
under Forwarders.

When you setup the server, did you create a forward lookup zone? Or did you
create root hints only?
