Folder Problems

Hi, I don't know if this is in the right sub-forum, but any help i
guiding me to the right place or just help in general with the problem
would be greatly appreciated. Alright, so I have 2 folder problems.

Firstly, I have folders with specifically arranged pictures that
arranged myself, not by name or any other said pattern. I also hav
them viewed as large icons. Every so often, the folder will rese
itself without rhyme or reason to alphabetical order, and medium icons
There's no pattern to this either, it just happens randomly, or so i
seems to me at least. And this will happen in all the sub-folders i
that particular spot from the desktop. I have no clue why, but I woul
like to fix this, since I keep this folder arranged, and am sick o
rearranging everything. I can't number everything either because th
folder is constantly added and subtracted from.

Secondly, every so often, again, with no pattern to it, whenever
click to open a folder to view the contents, the wrong folder image
will come up for a few seconds, and then it will show the right folde
contents. For example, I'll click on the My Desktop "Camera Pictures
folder and open the, let's say, Summer 2008 folder, and it will come u
with the contents from another folder off of My Desktop, such as "Schoo
slideshow presentation" in my schoolwork folder. The folders that com
up aren't recently accessed or changed, and there's no pattern to whic
folder comes up. It's just a random folder's contents that appears, the
it goes to the right folder content. And this happens in all locations

I've run spyware and anti-virus programs, and they don't find anything
So, those are the problems. I am hoping that they can be solved withou
updating windows, because the last time I did that with XP in 2006, m
Dell motherboard crashed. I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vist
Home Premium. Thank you in advance for any help

it might help if you run
some disk maintenance,
like cleanup, checkdisk and
defrag.

then see were you stand on
the issue.

right click on the drive
and the "properties" page
with these options will
be provided.

incidentally, before doing
the above, be sure to make
a copy of your images onto
another partition or disk or
upload them to skydrive
for free at microsoft.com.

Thanks for the reply. I defrag regularly, so that's not the reason, but
just incase I did it again, nothing was fixed. I did a checkdisk, which
I also do regularly, again, nothing.
For cleanup, I'm not sure what to do, since I'm unsure of what area to
do anything in. The categories, as you probably know, a
Downloaded Program Files 12.9 MB
Temporary Internet Files 295 KB
Hibernation File Cleaner 893 MB
Recycle Bin 0 Bytes
Setup Log Files 20 KB
Temporary Files 2.91
Thumbnails 797 MB (but I keep my images as thumbnails, and they keep
reseting)
Per user archived Windows error report 1.42 MB
System archived windows error repost 55.3 KB

The folder resetting seems to be happening more often now, and in more
places. It changes from whatever order it's in and whatever size
thumbnails to list view or medium icons, and in alphabetical order.
It's getting really annoying, to be honest. The wrong folder opening is
happening at about the same rate as before.

I had the same problem...followed the steps below....fixed problem

Modify Registry
==============
1. Click Start, type REGEDIT in the Start Search bar, and press Enter.
Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to
continue, please click Continue.

2. Select Computer (the root node) in the left pane, click Export under the
File menu, choose All under Export range, Select Desktop in the Save in box
and type backup in File Name, then click Save.

Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can simply
restore the registry by double-clicking the backup.reg file. Once we have
completed the troubleshooting and the issue has been resolved we will want to
delete that file.

3. Navigate to the following registry branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags

4. Right click on Bags registry key in the left pane, and click Delete.
5. Click Yes when prompt for confirmation to delete the registry key and all
its subkeys.

6. Next, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU

7. Right click on BagMRU registry key in the left pane, and click Delete.
8. Click Yes when prompt for confirmation to delete the registry key and all
its subkeys.

9. Close Registry Editor.

10. Restart the computer.
11. After logging on your account, open Windows Explorer, go to Folder
Options (Organize -> Folder and Search Options) View tab, and make sure the
Remember each folder’s view settings is checked.

These 2 registry files have gotten conrupted and are causing the
problem....when you Re-Start your PC,the OS automatically re-creates "Clean"
copies of these 2 files...correcting the issue. I did this a month ago and
all is well. Just hold on to the Regisry backup for a week or so....

Let me know how it goes
