Folder options within briefcase

Hi all,

I have set-up a briefcase on my machine. Whenever I do File -> Open from any
applications looking at my Briefcase folder, the only Views I get are: Name,
Sync Copy In, and Status. I especially wanted Type and Date Modified to
appear too, better in this order of Name, Type, Date Modified, Sync Copy In,
and Status. I can get Type and Date Modified to appear by right-clicking on
the column label and ticking the required check boxes in Choose Details,
Select the details you want to display for the files in this folder. However,
I have to do this every single time I do File -> Open from any applications!
Is there a way to make these (Type and Date Modified) to appear permanently
everytime I do File -> Open from any applications?

Within the Briefcase folder itself, if I open any folder within, it displays
"Name, Type, Date Modified, Sync Copy In, and Status." This appeared
correspond to the the option that I have chosen via (with any open Folder)
Tools -> Folder Options -> View and clicking on Apply to All Folders. This
appearance however is not being replicated when I open the same folder if I
do so from an application using File -> Open (or via the usual File Open
Icon).

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,
jes

There's nothing you can do. This behaviour is by design, and doesn't apply
to just the briefcase. No matter which folder you view with details mode,
any changes made to the columns are not preserved -- including any sort
order you've applied.

The only way to preserve these details is if a programmer derives their own
Open File dialog and implements the required persistence feature. But anything
that uses the standard File Open dialogue will not preserve its settings, other
than to remember the most-recently-used folder when the OK button is clicked.

A lot of users complain about this lack of consistency (particularly when
Microsoft bleat about it endlessly when discussing GUI design), so it
might be worth adding your voice. Perhaps they'll include such a feature
in Vista...

Thank you Micky for your response. At least for non-briefcase folder when you
do File -> Open, and chose Details, Type and Date Modified will be
displayed. It is only with briefcase mode that this option is not available.
How can I suggest this to Microsoft? Much as I don't like it as a monolith
technology provider, I am using its product so may as well make it helpful to
me.

Thank you again,
jes
