Folder Options : Opens With preferences become permanent

when I change the 'opens with' preferences under "Folder
Options" in the control panel, the new they become
permanent upon closing the dialog window. There's no way
to remove an item from the new actions become permanent.
(The remove and edit buttons are greyed out for anything
I've added). How do I reset this to the default? Or
edit/change them once they've been altered?
