Folder Options - Display Hidden Files

J

Jim D

I managed to get the Folder Options working again by following several
of the message chains in this group. Thanks to the contributors!!

Now that I have the Folder Options back in Control Panel, I tried
un-checking the hide system folder option because I want to copy my
email file to another computer. However, after unchecking the option,
system files are still hidden (there was no change) even after
rebooting.

I'm running Windows XP Professional, SP-2 with all security updates.

TIA

Hi

Did you check 'Show hidden Files and Folders' as well?

Interesting - that option does not appear in the Folder Options, so I
not only didn't think to select it, I couldn't have!!

How do I restore the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option??!!

TIA

Hi

That setting is available via Windows Explorer - Tools>Folder Options>View.

Is this a standalone home machine or is it a work machine and a member of a
domain?

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

This is a stand-alone home-office machine.

Hi

That setting is available via Windows Explorer - Tools>Folder Options>View.

The option actually does not appear in the Folder Options>View --
which is the problem.

Go here...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read the instructions at the top.
368. Folder Options/View Empty - Restore Now

viewfolderrestore.reg is the file that you want.

You probably have an item missing from...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder

viewfolderrestore.reg should repair it.

You may have to reboot.
