All my folders open maximised with explorer(tree)view on
left side. Nothing in folders options seems to work.
Remember settings is checked but it does not remember
squat. signed desperately annoyed.

In Windows Explorer, select Tools/Folder Options/General tab. In the Browse
Options section, select the "Open each folder in the same window" option.
Click Apply to all folders.

Right-click a folder and choose 'open'. Choosing 'explore' will open with the folder tree in the left pane. If 'explore' is set as the default context menu item, you can change that in the Folder Options. Tools > Folder Options > File Types > Folder [not File Folder]. Set the 'open' command as default.

This opens folders in normal view when double-clicked.
