folder modified date

each time i open a file the date gets modified and thats o.k. but it also
updates the folder date and i would like that to remain the same as the date
when first created - what setting do i need to change to achieve this -

You can't prevent that since,technically, when a file is modified, it's
containing folder has also been modified. What you can do, however, in the
window listing the folders (not the files) is make sure that there's a
'Created' column visible as well as a 'Modified' column (or remove the
'Modified' column and just have the 'Created' column showing. Here's how:

Open a window showing just the folders.
Change view to 'Details'
Right-click any of the column-headers
Right-click to show/hide the details you want for that list of folders.
The settings you choose will 'stick' but only for that particular list of
folders.
