Folder missing from favorite folders; how do I get it back?

Using Windows Vista and had set up a folder in my favorite folders. Closed
outlook and when I opened it back up the folder wasn't there. HELP!

Favorite Folders is only a shortcut to the actual folder so simply recreate
it.

But I had emails in it that I need and can't find now that the folder is
missing.

Again, a Favorite Folder is nothing more than a shortcut; deleting that does
not delete the actual folder it is referring to. Browse to the original
folder and recreate the shortcut. If the actual folder is deleted than you
have to restore it from backup.

I can't find the original folder neither; that's what is so frustrating and
this isn't the first time that this has happened to me. So how did the
original folder get deleted??
