Folder hierarchy

Is there a SIMPLE Microsoft Knowledge Base paper which sets out the
arrangement of folders within XP

As a newcomer from 20 years of Apple Macintosh I find the whole Microsoft
filing system confusing

I am concerned that, in my ignorance I may have repostponed actual folders
where I should have used a shortcut

It would be helpful to have a map of where crucial folders SHOULD be

It is very confusing to open My Computer and see

Guest's Documents (D:\Documents and Settings\Guest\My Documents
containing only Guest's Pictures and Guest's Music

Francis's Documents (D:\Documents and Settings\Francis\My Documents
containg many folders and files

Shared Documents (D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\My Documents
containing only Guest's Pictures and Guest's Music

Can I delete Guest's Documents and Shared Documents folders
or, can O consolidate all in Shared Documents and remove Guest's Documents
and Francis's Documents

It seems there are too many self (Microsoft) generated folders

Can you help please
