Folder/file sync tools?

Newbie

Hi,

Would like to know if there's any tools that's similar to Windows Offline
file sync but with this ability:

Files stored locally and sync to the server (i.e. specified network path)
when logon/logoff, as well it can be run in specific time throught its own
scheduler or Windows task scheduler.

We're trying to implement offline files as a way of backing up our
desktops/laptops. For desktops, it's not much of a concern, but for laptop
users, this is causing a lot of troubles and a lot of delays.

Any help is much appreciated,

Simon

I also need the ability to handle open files so any open documents will get
sync'd to the server still.

Thanks,

Like Torgeir, I recommend SecondCopy. However, it will not copy open
files. You can get around this by scheduling the backup late at night
and training your people to close out of programs, etc. If you have
large number of users/workstations, this probably won't work though.
You might want to post in one of the server newsgroups to see how other
sysadmins handle this.

Hi guys,

Unfortunately, I need a reliable solution as we have over 250 laptop users
and I need something that I can easily deploy with minimal configuration at
the user end, or customized the installation before rolling out to users
would work too.

I'll try posting to the server forums, thanks.

Hi,

http://www.centered.com/secondcopy/issues.html#KI_InUse

<quote>
In the current version of Second Copy there is an option to
attempt to copy the files that are in-use by other programs.
Whether this attempt is successful or not depends on how well the
other program follows the Win32 file locking conventions. To see
if this will work for you on your system in Second Copy 2000 go to
the Advanced Properties dialog for the profile. In Second Copy 97
go to Edit | Options | Copy and select the "try to copy file..."
option.

Thanks, Torgeir! I didn't know this and I'll check it out.
