Folder creation and renaming

Any time I try to create a folder, the folder "New Folder" is created and the
box is displayed to type in the real name for the folder. After typing in
the new name and pressing enter, the name returns to New Folder. If I try to
rename an existing folder, after typing in the new name and pressing enter of
clicking again on the folder icon, the name reverts to the previous folder
name.
If I check the folder properties the read only button is on. If I turn off
the dialog, I get the dialog box about setting the attribute of all of the
subfolders and subfiles. I check yes and Enter. The read only buttons is
off for about ten seconds and then resets to on. I have administrator
privilages.

I'm having the same problems here. I've tried creating a new folder and
typing in a name and get the same result. I've tried the same steps as
garfield and get the same results. Is there a way to name new foldsers and
rename existing folders?
I have administrator privilages.

It does name them correct, just doesn't refresh the screen. Hit F5 and your
new name will be there. Somewhat annoying, I admit!

Thank you for the tip John.
I finally solved the problem by reformatting my hard drive and re-installing
The O/S. Everything is working fine now, system hangs every so often but
renaming folders is no longer a problem. Thanks for the tip though I'll
certainly keep it in mind.
Once again cheers.

I'm having the exact same problem and F5 doesn't work for me. I have asked
about this in several places and this thread is the first indication I've
seen that says others have it too. I've reported it as a bug and hopefully
others have too.

Apart from that one thing the whole O/S seems to be working very well so I'm
not too keen to reinstall.
