Folder background colors

I've read numerous postings on Google about how to change the background
colors of folders in Windows XP, but all methods seem overly-complicated,
requiring scripts and/or registry changes.

Surely there must be an easier way to accomplish this. It was a simple
procedure in Windows 98/ME - maybe someone knows an easy way to change the
colors or an external utility which would simplify the procedure?
