Folder Access Denied After Installing XP

My pc would not boot even in safe mode or the last known good configuration,
and therefore had to re-install Windows XP Home edition. Previous personal
data was stored on a different partition of my hard drive which is still
there, but I can no longer access my data files (other users are ok), I
presume it was because my user account was password protected and that I had
to make them private so no-one else could open them. Is there a way of
gaining access to the files in this folder or is it lost forever?

This works great for XP Pro, but does it work for XP Home? As I recall,
there is no such thing as a security tab in XP Home.

Yes it worked, the security tab appears whilst in safe mode.

**Will & Patti - many thanks for your help**

You're welcome - glad to help.

You need to take "Ownership" of the files and folders. From Start |
Help and Support search on Ownership or see this article:

Read the article. For XP Home boot into safe mode.
