Flyout menus blocked by Service Pack 2

Jeremy

I have been converting one of my websites to use flyout menus using layers
and behaviors (Jon Spivey's recipe).

I now find that XP with service pack 2 blocks these flyout menus by
default - I suppose because they use java scripts.

Does anyone have any advice? Should I go back to ordinary hyperlink menus
and forget scripts? Or will people that use SP2 be understanding enough to
remove the blocking using Microsoft's new "information bar"?

A lot of sites use scripts and I imagine there will be quite a lot of upset
people over this latest "feature" from Microsoft.

Anyone have ideas please?

It will only be blocked on your local system, and if you allow active
processes to RUN locally, it won't be blocked at all.

Many thanks Murray. I changed my Internet Options as you suggest and I can
see my flyout menus on my local machine now.

But remember each user must do the same, if they understand that the problem is with SP2, most will
assume it is that site that is having the problem, and will leave to visit another site.

Personally, I stick with basic text hyperlinks.

Ok. I will never have to worry about that anyway.

Why? You don't do web stuff?

It's just with disk-based webs. SP 2 prevents a lot of javascript functions
from running when the web page is accessed directly as a file to prevent
access to the file system. Works fine when viewed from a server however.

If this bothers someone too much that service Pack 2 is
trying to block scripts running on your machine then change it!

IE > Tools > Internet Options (new window)> Advanced (tab) Scroll towards
the bottom of the list (Security section) and Check 'Allow active content
to run in files on My Computer'. Will do the trick.

After that is should work without prompting...

All I do is web stuff using FP to create ASP driven web sites:

I don't use DHTML Menus

I avoid using CSS for anything other than turning off underlines for all text links on a page

I don't work with themes, shared borders, FP Navigation

I don't use flash

I don't use the above items, as I don't see any real need for doing so.

I get it. All content and no presentation....

So - I open one of your pages locally (i.e., not served), and all I see is a
form field or two.... 8)

Plenty of presentation...
