Floppy Fiasco

I am not alone on this one:
Newer NEC 1.44 MB floppy with Intel D815EEA Main Board,
P3 933MHz,(Micron ClientPro model) XP pro SP1. I put a
diskette that is formatted and readable on a Windows 2000
machine into the disk drive A:, try to access it and an
Error Message appears "Please insert a disk into drive
A:".

I tried the RegEdit thing described in KB article 811840.
I've unistalled and reinstalled the controller and disk
drive with the Device Manger. Tried several drive, cable,
and diskette combos.

This is pretty lame.

No.
I do not have that "hot fix" and try to access the floppy
drive via "windows explorer".
Thanks for your response.

Try formatting the floppy in the XP machine and see if it will read in the
Windwos 2000 one. Not all floppy drives are created equal and your problem
could be related to a drive head alignment problem. This kind of problem
used to be quite prevalent a while back so it could be a factor...
