Floppy drive wants to format disk

I just installed a new floppy in one of my computers. I tried to read a
floppy disk in the drive, but it tells me the disk is not formatted, do I
want to format it now? I can read the disk fine in the other computer. They
are both set up identically, so what could the problem be?

If you format a blank floppy in your new floppy drive, can you read it
in the floppy drive in your other computer? Maybe your new floppy drive
is out of alignment (so return it and get a replacement).

Is the LED always on for the new floppy drive? If so, you reversed the
ribbon cable.
