floppy drive chatter

Whenever I try to shut down my computer (Windows XP), the
floppy drive tries to find the disk and continues to
chatter for too long. Sometimes, I insert the disk just
to stop the chatter as I believe the drive will
eventually have a problem. How do I stop the polling of
the floppy drive on shutdown and boot-up?

bigowl,

On shutdown and boot-up you antivirus application may be checking the floppy drive for potential viruses.
And on boot, BIOS maybe looking for a floppy to boot from.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Check the settings of your antivirus software, it is probably set to scan
this at startup and shutdown.
