floppy disk drive-does not see diskette in it

Nan

Since I upgraded to XP, my floppy disk drive will not
recognize any diskette in it.
I have tried to update drivers; unplugged and replugged
in all cables and replace with another floppy drive(older
than the current one, it did not work either).
The drive is seen in the device manager and
troubleshooting says nothing is wrong.
Any ideas on how to fix it.

Aubrey, you are in luck! I just had the same problem a couple of days ago,
and the problem was that I had the ribbon cable reversed. I thought that the
plugs wouldn't allow you to do that, but I was wrong. My cheapo Belkin
floppy drive uses a proprietary ribbon cable that allows you to plug it in
reversed. If you notice that the ribbon cable has a red border on one side,
that ribbon cable should be plugged into the drive so that the red border is
on the side nearest the drive's power connector. At the other end, the red
border should be plugged into your motherboard at the "pin 1" side of the
motherboard socket.

Please let me know if this turns out to be the cause of your problem.
