Floppy connector problems

I have an Abit Fatal1ty motherboard and I want to connect two floppy
drives to it.

It should work according to the manual and the settings in BIOS.

However, the cable supplied with the board is only fitted for one
floppy drive.

So, I got an older standard floppy cable, but it won't fit!

The cable connector has one hole filled where the motherboard has a
pin. I did expect the motherboard connector to be missing a pin!

What's going on here?

Go into the Bios and see if the Bios will handle a B: drive. Chances are that it
won't as most later boards will only handle an A: floppy when they handle a
floppy at all.

What's going on here?

Some cables have a plug or no hole to match a missing pin on the MB.
This forces the cable orientation to be proper. If your cable is like
this, either remove the plug or drill a hole where it is needed in order
to plug it into the MB. Make sure to plug the cable in properly after
having done so, as it will no longer be impossible to reverse it.

Could I just cut of the pin that probably shouldn't be there on the
motherboard?

It's all really confusing.

If it is the wrong solution, its potentially expensive - would be a lot
cheaper mistake to just drill out the hold in the cable connector!

Just before you do anything, though - this sounds like a daft thing to even
say, but sometime the most obvious is worth checking - do you have the cable
the wrong way round?

Drilling sounds like a better option... Thanks for the suggestion.

And good idea, but the cable is not the wrong way round.

I've found that the 'missing hole' in the connector is sometimes a simple plug
that can be eased out with the sharp tip of a hobby knife - much less dangerous
than cutting a pin of drilling the socket.

Are both ends of the cable that way?
