Flip 3d without aero

I prefer using Windows Classic theme instead of Aero, but then I lose some
nice Aero-features like Flip 3d, the new alt-tab replacement and the
"preview" of running applications you gets when you hold the mouse over an
application in the task bar. Why is it so? Is there any solution for this?

It is so because they are part of the Aero feature.
Aero is more than just the transparency bit.

No, no out-of-the-box solution. That's the way the Microsoft people devised
it.

It has to do, partly, with the rendering engines. The Aero and Standard are
DirectX whereas Classic and Basic are GDI+. But is also is tied in with
design and business decisions made by the people at Microsoft.

To have a 'classic' look theme run on WDDM, you'd either have to petition
Microsoft to offer one, or get some 3rd party 'Stardock' theme that looks
like the 'Classic' (note: for important business or personal machines I
wouldn't recommend 3rd party theming).
