My manual says to hold down the Windows key and press tab. Nothing happens.

You may not have Aero turned on. In the Start Menu, click on Help and
Support and search for "Aero", to help you enable it (i.e., click on
"Troubleshoot problems with Windows Aero").

You do not have Aero turned on. This is for one of three reasons:
1 - it is turned off
2 - your video card does not support it
3 - you have an application running that breaks compatability

I had my Aero turn off for a while before I tracked it down to a
problem with QuickTime. Whenever I would launch one of two apps that
used QuickTime components, my Aero would dissappear. I could select it
in the dialog, but would immediately revert back. In my case, a
setting QuickTime's advanced settings tab fixed the issue.

It was turned off, as I had Windows classic set. Thanks.
