Control panel, Flip 3D and welcome center not working

Hi,

I've just bought a new pc with Vista premium (32 bit) pre-installed and I'm
having trouble.
Whenever I click control panel the window opens, but only for a split second
then closes. That happens every single time I click control panel.

Flip 3D doesn't work either. When I press the windows key + tab, nothing
happens, and when I click ''switch between windows'' a little box pops up
showing what I'm using but it doesn't go into flip 3D.

Also, nothing happens at all when I click Welcome center, and I'm sure they
aren't the only things going wrong.

My system meets all the specifications for Vista. In fact, it blows them to
pieces.

I've tried using system restore, and that does fix the problem but only for
a few hours or so.

I'd really appreciate some help from someone who knows what they're talking
about. I'll keep my eye on this thread for replies.

Regards,
Alex

Update your drivers, especially video. Take it back to a restore point where
everything works and immediately go get the new drivers.

Thanks for replying. I did a system restore, downloaded the new drivers and
everything works. But the restore points didn't go back to the points when
this problem started, and I'm pretty sure I already had the latest video card
drivers.
What do I do if the problem occurs again?

Thanks,
Alex

Re-install your video drivers..... this often corrects such issues. If no
joy come back here
with as good a description as you can.

Hi, Can I ask do you have Nortons (Anti-virus, Internet Security etc.)
installed. As i have a simular problem. I removed Norton and all works ok...

I just noticed after downloading the latest Nvidia 8800 drivers that Windows
Aero has stopped working! I've tried right clicking the desktop and going to
personalize but the option to switch it to Aero has vanished. I was there
just before I got the new drivers 10 mins ago! Argh!
I'm going to try the Beta drivers and see if that sorts things out.

No I'm using an AVG 30 day free trial while I save up for the full version
of AVG or another anti-virus program.

Nope, beta drivers don't appear to have made any difference.

What do I do? I'm really frustrated!

Thanks

Ok that fixed it, I think. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

Thanks for all your help.

Use Avast Free 4 Home anti-virus; it beats the lot of them!
And does not hog resources.

I agree, but I still find it's MP3 player looks quite bizarre.

More and more people are having this problem, including me. I completely
reinstalled windows and it still occurs. When it happens, click the start
menu and in the search box type "services" minus the quotes and hit enter.
Scroll down to the Software Licensing service, right click on it and click
restart. This is only a temp fix. After you restart your pc it can happen
again.

This problem is still occurring constantly.

The only thing that fixes it is a system restore. And the weird thing is,
even if I pick a restore point when the problem was happening...it still
fixes it!

Does anyone know if Microsoft is aware and/or are fixing it?
