hi,

i just got a new dell at work and i have a problem. i wear progressive
glasses - the correction changes vertically with close in correction at
the bottom. the monitor with this system bottom edge is about 4 or 5
inches above the desk. so, to look at the screen i tend to tilt my
head back which is not good for my neck. has anyone seen flat panels
with screens that go lower toward the working surface. i had a laptop,
which was good for that purpose, but the screen was only 14", so i
asked for a desktop. now, i have a different headache. anyone know of
flat panels that can be lowered more?

There are different methods of supporting flat panel monitors and a few of
them can be set lower.

They do make computer desks which have the monitor partially or completely
recessed into the desktop.

Many work places support the purchasing of (just) computer glasses. They
have the focus set match the distance from the front of the screen to your
face, as in you have to measure it prior to going to the optometrist.

Some of the mall eyeglasses stores never offer these to customers but they
made a big difference at our work place. Complaints of eye/neck strain from
computer use were eliminated by those who used them.

My Viewsonic VP171b adjusts vertically from 1.75" to 6" between the
bottom edge of the active display surface and the desktop. I believe
that the VP930b and VP2030b have about the same vertical adjustment.

The Dell 2005FPW is just over 1" from the desk at it's lowest setting.
