Dear friends,
I have one flash memory its size is 1GB. But once I check it and want to
format in Windows XP SP3. It’s showing only 8MB. How can I get full size of
it?
I searched on the net to find some Flash Memory formatting software, but
didn’t find useful. On my flash memory it’s written “M.P.H Flashâ€.
Thanks and Regards,
M.Saine

It may have a security program on it. Look at the instructions on how to
access the flash drive..

Click Start / Run / diskmgmr.msc. What size does the Disk Manager report for
your flash disk?

Not saying that this is your problem but you should at least be forewarned
that a known scam is selling mislabeled USB drives and flash memory which
prove to be either inoperable empty cases or of a smaller capacity than
claimed. Did you purchase yours from a reputable company? If so you should
take it back and demand a replacement and have the seller demonstrate that
what is being sold is as-claimed.

Good point. If this is the OP's suspicion then he should test the stick on
some other PC prior to going back to the dealer.

It's time to try the various suggestions you received.

snip...

You say that the memory is "working fine on Windows Vista". What do you
mean by that? Have you tried saving some number of files, close to 1gB
worth of them, on the drive in Vista and then tried reading them back? If
you mean simply that Vista reports the capacity as 1gB then it could be
using a different method than XP to query the capacity and is being
tricked. A 1gB drive should certainly be able to save perhaps 800mB worth
of files even after formatting. Perhaps music files or some other that
would easily reveal corrupt data. Testing should take only a few minutes.

BTW, for normal use, no special formatting software is needed for removable
flash memory -- the usual FAT format command does it properly. You could
also use the DIR command in the CMD box to see what it thinks about the flash.
