Flash Drives (2 of them) fail with XP Home

I have two flash drives from different manufacturers. Both work perfectly in
my XP Pro machine; both have files loaded onto them.

When I plug them into my XP home machine however, windows recognizes them,
but reports they are not formatted. I even tried formatting one of them on
the xp home machine and it reports drive cannot be formatted.

Both manufacturers of these drives explain the native drivers in windows xp
are all that is required. Why won't they work with the XP home machine, and
how do I fix it?

If you look at my ongoing thread "Unintended write-protection", it MAY be
you'll get some clues as to what's happenning with your USB flash drives
(since format is a write operation). I don't warrant this answer, however,
but did manage to re-establish contact with my USB drives. So, check if
you're using a 'limited' User ID....
