Dear friends I need urgent help.
My JetFlash 1GB memory disk dissaperar from "My Computer"... it was working
perfectly... then I install the last Norton System Works 2006 and when I
re-start my notebook... every thing works OK but the JetFlash dissapear... I
try it in other two computers... it's working OK. Then I look at the System -
Device Manager - Disk drives... there it's: JetFlash TS!GF2B USB Device.
Every thing it's perfectly OK. I look at the Universal Serial Bus... Every
thing it's OK.
Then I go to the Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer
Management... and under "Storage" - Disk Mangement I found my JetFlash disk
as Disk 1 Removable but without a letter... (Disk 0 have the letter C:) So, I
give a righ click on the JetFlash Disk, select the option "Change drive
letter and path accept the E: option sugested, give a right click in the
graphical partion showed and select the option open. First I get the answer
the E:/ disk doesn't exist... I try again and the JetFlash disk was open: I
succeed without problems to enter the FlashDisk files and archives... read
and write data without problems... but still in the explorer 'Address' there
is nothing... no drive letter or path...
So, I can access my memory disk using this back dor entry... the question
is" what to do so the JetFlash appair again in "My Computer". I give lectures
and I must switch several Flash disks during my lectures... It's very
annoying to go "around" the house to enter the back door... disconnect me
from the class and it's continuity...

Remove all references to the JetFlash in the Device Manager and then
disconnect it. You then need to reconnect it ans XP should redetect it
correctly.

Well, the first thing to do is uninstall Norton System Works
2006, in my opinion. I've heard a lot of negative comments
about it, and NOTHING good about it. I wouldn't use anything
more recent than Norton System Works 2003. And I wouldn't
use the AV on it. I'd install everything else for hard drive
management, and I'd install AVAST4 which is FREE for AV.

How to repair the damage, I can't tell you.

Perhaps some other kind person will tell you how to do that.

Have you done a System Restore? Look in the Start Button >
"All Programs" > Accessories > System Restore.

And get in the habit of doing daily Create System Restore
points as well. When you install new stuff, and everything's
working, create a System Restore point.

Good luck!

Another thing you can try is to log in with a different profile to see if
that makes a difference. If so, you'll know that the issue is somewhere in
the profile.

(snip irrelevant advice)

The quality of NSW notwithstanding (and I agree with you), none of your
advice will help the OP with his JetFlash memory device. The OP needs
to start troubleshooting as suggested by Yves Leclerc.
