Vista Ultimate 64 bit. 32 bit IE7.
I have Flash 7 preinstalled with a new machine.
Uninstalled using the latest official uninstaller from Adobe website.
Tried to install Flash 9.
I keep getting pop up boxes warning that it needs to do something outside of
Protected Mode.
Doesn't seem to matter if I Allow or Cancel, the boxes just keep on coming.
I also get a message saying it might not have installed correctly.
Testing on the Adobe site shows that is (sort of ) working.
Every time I start IE7 the warning boxes just keep popping up.
As it a web install I can't Run as Administrator to see if that helps (or
can I ?)
Should I turn off protected mode (ONLY to let it install properly) then turn
back on afterwards?
Or is protected mode itself an incompatibility with Flash 9?
Or even is Vista itself not compatible.
I normally try to use the latest versions of stuff as it usually (!)
prevents problems, not cause them.
It seems a shame to stick with a Flash plug-in 2 generations old on a brand
new system.
Take all the above and ditto for the 64 bit IE7. ???
Similarly tried to install Shockwave from Adobe site and wouldn't load
successfully.
(Though in fairness I think it tries to install itself when going to the
test page for the Flash Player,
and may well just be me confusing the two and not allowing it to run
properly !)
Just need to know if anyone else with Vista Ultimate 64 bit has the latest
versions running properly,
and what they had to do to achieve this. Or whether not to bother (yet).
Oh, nearly forgot.
Have Java 1.5 preinstalled.
Does 1.6 work OK? (32 bit)
Would I need to uninstall 1.5 first?
Finally the only 64 bit Java I could find was one that has AMD in its file
name (have Intel Quad)
I know that the 64 bit version doesn't support the browser (that's OK)
But does this particular file version work with 64 bit java apps on an intel
processor?
