Downloaded mediacoder and installed it. When I launched it, it gave an
error. Will try it later after rebooting.

In the meanwhile, downloaded Switch and launched it. Tried to convert
about 6 Pink Floyd *.flac files to .mp3. That too gave an error and
referred me to a site to lookup to solve the issue.

Will try Transcoder next and let you know the result. Thanks.

Thanks to all those who told me about various applications to convert
flac to mp3.
I use and like
Foobar2000
http://www.foobar2000.org/
Download the "Special" installer and make sure this version of Lame.exe is
in the main folder:
http://www.rarewares.org/dancer/dancer.php?f=35
Now just highlight the song(s) right click-->convert-->run conversion

I have tried to convert the files I had on my HD with all the
applications and some error occurred with all of them. I have concluded
that something's wrong with the *.flac files (they were all Pink Floyd
songs from the Dark Side of the Moon), and I don't know how they got
there. Sigh :(
Maybe I should buy a CD.

I Forget

I download both the programs above and ran them.
Also checked that the in_flac.dll exists in CDEX's plug in folder.
However, when I run CDEX and Configure Winamp plugins, in_flac.dll does
not appear; the others namely in_APE.dll, in_vorbis.dll and in_mp3.dll
do show up on the list.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. By default that particular install program silently creates a
folder in \CDex\Plugins named plugins. IOW, you have a plugins folder
inside your plugins folder ;-)
Remove the in_flac.dll from this redundant folder and put it in the
same folder as the in_APE.dll in_mp3.dll in_vorbis.dll, etc.

Very perceptive! Yes, that was the problem. Copied it to the main
plugins folder and it worked. Thanks a lot.
