Fixing windows directory name

I accidently renamed a directory in windows as a file
with an extension. For example, the directory was named
finances. I accidently renamed it financesave.doc. The
directory was renamed as filename financesave.doc. I
can't reclaim it's directory properties even after
renaming to finances or anything else for that matter.
THe file attribute must idicate it remains a file not a
directory. Any thoughts on how to rename as true
directory and access accordingly?

There is a program called NTFSDOS, that allows access to NTFS volumes when
booting from a floppy set. You could rename the folder from here. Search in
Google for program.

I don't understand what you must have done. I just created a folder XXX and
copied some files into it. Then I renamed the folder to XXX.doc. Even with
the name change it stayed a folder and files in it remained available. Then
I renamed it back to XXX. It stayed a folder with the files still in it.
Changing the name of something doesn't change what it is. (a file may no
longer open with the program that uses it since that filename extension is
not associated with the program).

Example: renaming stuff.jpg to stuff.doc doesn't make that picture a word
document. But now when you try to execute it it will puke since Word will
try to open it as a word file and it's really not. You can rename it back
to stuff.jpg and now it will open as a picture. To actually change
something you need to open it in a program that can handle it and then
choose SAVE AS and pick a different format (if available).
Opening that stuff.jpg in PaintShopPro and choosing SAVE AS will allow you
to save it as a .bmp; gif; or any of about 30 options. If you choose
something other than .jpg it physically changes to a file of that type and
it will now exist as an additional file. If doesn't replace the original
stuff.jpg.
